Unlike the other classrooms, there is no daily schedule for the infants. Each infant is on an individualized schedule, napping, feeding and playing according to the rhythm of that child. Diaper changes are performed at regular intervals, and all feedings and diaper changes are noted on a daily report for the parent to review upon picking his or her child. Infants are encouraged to develop their neck muscles through supervised tummy time each day. There are numerous toys for them to play with, and the teachers read to them each day. When cranky they are rocked in our rocking chairs. Once they start walking, they are allowed to visit the toddlers next door to see and imitate the slightly older children. It’s a big milestone when they start drinking from a sippy cup, because there are no bottles allowed in the toddler room!
