Below is your go-to guide for understanding how our center runs day to day. It also shows how we partner with you to support your child’s growth and well-being. Inside, you’ll find logistics about everything from hours, tuition, and illness policies. We also provide information like: what to expect during your child’s transition into care, how we handle discipline with compassion, and how to prepare your child for a great day—from clothing to meals.
Whether you’re brand new to Greenway or simply need a refresher, we encourage you to read through the handbook. Return to it anytime questions arise. It’s designed to make your experience smoother, your child’s experience more supported, and our connection with your family even stronger.
According to the Center for Disease Control and the Society of Health and Physical Educators (formerly the National Association for Sport and Physical Education), children should have 60 minutes of unstructured and 60 minutes of structured vigorous play each day.
The Maryland Child Care Regulations require that children have two periods of outdoor play each day, except under extreme weather conditions.
GLC follows the Maryland State Department of Education’s Child Care Weather Watch chart (linked below). If you are ever curious if the children will be outside, please review the attached chart.
GLC provides children with 90-120 minutes of physical activity per day. This amount may be adjusted depending on the weather. We teach that engaging in developmentally appropriate physical activity is fun and establishes a habit that we
hope our alums will continue throughout their lives.
Families can support their children’s healthy outdoor play by providing weather appropriate articles of clothing that children need for outdoor play, such as:
Please do not request that your child stay indoors. Each classroom has a specific child-to-teacher ratio, and we cannot accommodate these requests. If your child is not well enough to be outside, they are not well enough to attend GLC.
