About Greenway Learning Center
A True Parent Cooperative
Greenway Learning Center is a non-profit, tax-exempt parent cooperative offering trusted child care in Greenbelt, Maryland. For over 30 years, we’ve served families with a warm, inclusive, and community-centered approach to early education.
When you enroll at Greenway, you become a member of our cooperative community. This means you have a voice in center decisions, including voting for and serving on our Board of Directors. All voting board members are current parents, ensuring that family voices are central to how our center is run.
Parents also have opportunities to support the center by volunteering in ways that match their skills and availability. We believe in collaboration between families and staff to create the best possible environment for children to grow.
A Nurturing and Playful Environment
Our dedicated staff is committed to creating a space that is warm, nurturing, and emotionally supportive. We believe in plenty of encouragement and individualized attention to help each child feel safe, valued, and seen.
Children are encouraged to play, explore, and build caring relationships with one another and their teachers. Through guided activities and unstructured playtime, kids begin to understand the world and their place in it.
Play is a child’s most powerful tool for learning. Our program balances free play and structured group activities, giving children opportunities to build social skills, creativity, and confidence.
We use positive, respectful guidance to help children learn how to interact with others, manage emotions, and contribute to a kind, cooperative classroom culture.

A Typical Day at Greenway
Days at Greenway begin and end with all age groups enjoying supervised free play together, fostering community and connection. By 9:00 a.m., children transition to their individual classrooms to begin the day’s curriculum with their teachers. We have dedicated rooms for infants, toddlers, twos, and preschoolers.
Our curriculum supports early physical development and age-appropriate milestones in the youngest groups. Beginning with our two-year-olds, we introduce foundational academic concepts such as letters, numbers, colors, and shapes—all through play-based learning. Throughout the day, children also enjoy group activities, crafts, outdoor play, and nature walks that make learning fun and engaging.
Celebrations, Seasons & Special Moments
At Greenway, we believe in making memories all year long. From Super Bowl Friday and Valentine’s Day to the mischievous leprechaun in March and a cheerful Egg Hunt in April, our calendar is full of joyful traditions. Summer brings weekly water play and a family picnic to celebrate the season’s end, while fall welcomes visits to the pumpkin patch, a Halloween parade, and Thanksgiving festivities. We even enjoy a special visit from Santa in December.
Throughout the year, we invite families to be part of the magic with events like Mother’s Day Tea, Back to School Night, and the heartfelt celebration of your child’s preschool graduation. These shared moments create lasting memories and strengthen the connection between school and home.
